On
October
30,
2008
in
the
city
of
Boston
my
spouse/partner
of
26
years
and
I
were
joined
in
a
legal
marriage,
during
a
solemn
ceremony
in
the
office
of
the
Clerk
of
that
city.
It
was
a
moving
and
beautiful
ritual
that
began
with
a
recital
of
our
qualifications
for
the
marriage,
and
an
oral
statement
of
life-long
binding
vows
and
performed
under
the
auspices
of
the
woman
who
holds
and
performs
the
many
duties
of
that
office.
Even
more
stirring
is
the
fact
that
she
was
a
Benedictine
Nun
for
23
years,
before
leaving
that
Order
and
doing
God's
work
as
a
City
office
holder
and
for
all
His
people
when
authorized
under
State
law.
For
the
two
of
us
this
was
an
important
event,
but
it
is
also
significant
for
all
US
citizens
in
that
with
the
passage
of
Amendment
2
here
in
Florida,
and
the
passage
of
similar
amendments
in
California
and
Arizona,
marriages
in
Massachusetts
cannot
be
performed
for
citizens
of
states
whose
constitution
prohibits
such
a
union.
The
anti-homosexual
prohibition
of
marriage
for
same
sex
dares
to
declare
they
are
less
than
fully
empowered
with
the
constitutional
rights
of
ordinary
citizens.
Our
constitution
plainly
states
that
all
citizens
are
equal
before
the
law.
This
is
a
violation
of
our
U.
S.
Constitution
rights
by
any
reading
of
laws
and
amendments
of
the
various
states
that
suggest
otherwise.
We
promise
to
continue
to
press
for
equality
in
every
court
venue,
in
every
legislature,
and
every
polling
site
for
full
citizen
equality.
It
is
our
hope
to
urge
every
resource
-
including
this
paper
-
to
condemn
the
shameful
behavior
of
so
many
of
the
citizens
of
this
country
by
choosing
to
ratify
these
amendments.

Dear
Editor,
I
have
never
been
more
hurt
and
disgusted
than
I
am
now
after
the
hateful
voters
of
Florida
passed
Amendment
2.
It
sickens
me
that
our
Governor
fully
supported
this
amendment,
and
a
majority
of
voters
along
with
a
lot
of
Obama
supporters,
obviously
supported
his
position.
The
silence
of
Obama
at
all
his
massive
public
rallies
was
deafening.
He
privately
has
stated
he
supports
gay
unions
and
was
personally
against
the
amendment,
but
at
all
his
rallies
where
it
would
have
done
some
good
to
speak
up—he
was
silent.
I
am
totally
fed
up
with
my
Democrat
party,
which
only
really
“supports”
us
when
they
want
money
or
votes.
When
it
really
matters
they
will
not
speak
up
and
defend
us,
so
should
we
really
blindly
give
the
Democrats
or
any
other
party
our
support
as
the
party
of
lesser
evils,
when
it
is
painfully
obvious
that
they
don’t
support
our
community.
Perhaps
it
is
time
that
I
and
my
“husband”
of
18
years
leave
this
great
state
as
I
can
see
we
are
not
really
wanted
here.

Dear
Editor,
Before
the
election
I
had
an
email
every
day
from
one
of
my
various
subsciptions
to
news
threads
in
the
gay
community
of
Florida,
but
since
Nov
5th
there
seems
to
have
been
a
famine.
Being
an
ex-Mormon,
and
with
a
son
and
brother
still
active
in
that
church
in
CA,
I
belong
to
several
threads
that
keep
me
abreast
of
what
the
fallout
has
been
from
Prop
8,
and
there
seems
to
be
a
stark
contrast.
Where
are
our
protests?
Weren't
we
hurt
here
in
Florida
by
Amendment
2?
We
were
defeated
by
almost
25%
of
the
electorate,
and
the
language
in
Amendment
2
was
much
more
threatening
than
that
in
Prop
8.
We
are
now
prohibited
from
even
having
anything
that
"resembles
marriage".
Where
is
our
anger?
Why
don't
we
have
stories
in
the
national
news?
We
are
now
joined
by
Arkansas
as
one
of
4
states
where
we
can't
even
form
a
family
by
getting
together
with
our
"roommate"
to
adopt
a
child.
The
Mormon
Church
has
4
or
5
large
Stake
Centers
(their
version
of
Catholic
Cathedrals)
throughout
South
Florida
where
we
could
demonstrate
along
the
I-95
corridor.
Why
are
the
cameras
only
being
focused
on
California
and
Utah
temples?
We
have
an
enormous
Mormon
temple
here
in
Florida
(in
Orlando)
and
I
just
attended
the
gay
pride
parade
in
Orlando
with
thousands
of
people
present.
I
am
willing
to
spearhead
any
protests
that
